Kyiv should become a model of modernization for the whole of Ukraine, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych announced speaking at Kyiv City State Administration at the presentation of the development strategy of the capital city until 2025.

"Order in the country starts from the capital, and the efficiency of reforms in Kyiv will determine the success of modernization of Ukraine as a whole. Therefore, the development of the capital, bringing it into order and innovation, are a matter of national importance, without exaggeration," the head of state said.

President Yanukovych said that Kyiv lags behind the capitals of Eastern European countries in terms of social and economic development.

Therefore, the Ukrainian capital should set the priority task of catching up with neighbors both close and distant, he said.

Speaking about the strategy of Kyiv’s development, the president said that all actions of the authorities should be open to the public.

The head of state called for public awareness campaigns for all projects, as well as for improvements to the existing procedure for public discussion and the procedure of making decisions on construction work in the capital city.

"Everything that happens in Kyiv should be transparent to Kyiv residents. Everything done in Kyiv should be approved by Kyivans.

Everything that is done should benefit Kyivans, the capital city and Ukraine as a whole," he said.
