Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov has forecast that the reconstruction of the Paton Bridge in Kyiv will start after the completion of construction of the Darnytsia and Podilsko-Voskresensky bridges.

"After the finish of construction of this bridge and the Podilsko [-Voskresensky] Bridge, we’ll take care of the reconstruction of the Paton Bridge," he said on May 27 in Kyiv at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the opening of an approach road from the left bank of River Dnipro beside the Paton Bridge.

Currently the Darnytsia Bridge is open for trains. Work on the organization of approaches to the bridge from various directions is being finished. The approach road from the left bank to the right bank toward Koncha-Zaspa will be opened by Ukrainian Independence Day on August 24.

The Podilsky Bridge is seven kilometers long and 35 meters wide, and is to join the right bank (the Podil district), Trukhanov Island and left bank in Kyiv (Troyeschyna and Voskresenka districts). The bridge is to be used by cars and subway trains. Azarov said that the bridge will be opened to car traffic in 2011 and all of the work will be finished in 2012.
