You're reading: Police: About 550 supporters and opponents of Tymoshenko near Pechersky court

The situation outside the building of the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv, where the consideration of the Russian gas supply contract case against former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko resumed on Monday, remains calm, police have said.

"No violations of public order were reported during rallies. As of 1300, the situation near the building of the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv was under control and calm," the media liaisons office of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry reported.

According to police, five tents and 250 opponents of Tymoshenko representing the Ukrainian NGO Ukrainian Military Union are near the courthouse.

There are also 47 tents and about 200 supporters of the opposition leader.

"Seventy police officers are maintaining public order," reads the statement.
