You're reading: Communists, supporters of Ukraine’s energy independence rallying near government

Two rallies are being held outside the building of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on Wednesday.

The supporters of the Communist Party of Ukraine are protesting against an IMF mission visit to Ukraine, while the committee of Ukraine’s energy independence is demanding that the government conduct policies aimed at ensuring the country’s independence in the energy sector.

About 70 supporters of the Communist Party of Ukraine are rallying near the government building on the opposite side of Hrushevskoho Street. They are chanting "IMF – Get Out of Ukraine!" and are holding banners with slogans "IMF Loans – A Noose Around the Neck of the People," "You Only Get Free Cheese in a Mousetrap."

About 50 activists of the committee of Ukraine’s energy independence are rallying next to them, demanding that the government reduce the country’s dependence on natural gas supplies.

They say they are outraged that the Ukrainian government increases gas consumption without creating any conditions for the implementation of renewable energy projects and without supporting a program for the replacement of gas with domestic types of fuel.

The participants in this rally called on the Ukrainian government to stop asking for a discount on Russian natural gas, and instead conduct reform of the country’s energy sector.
