You're reading: Clashes end between police, protestors in central Kyiv

Officers from the Berkut special forces unit have left the venue of an incident involving demonstrators from an organization of international war veterans called, Nobody But Us, not far from the government building in central Kyiv.

After seizing tents and other gear from the demonstrators in the park opposite the building of the Cabinet of Ministers, law enforcement officers moved away to return to their initial positions, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent said.

Clashes between demonstrators and Berkut officers have now ended.

Protestors have remained in the Mariinsky Park, their number has risen.

The activists from Nobody But Us have been joined by around 100-150 BYT-Batkivschyna faction activists, who earlier stood outside the parliament building.

Demonstrators outside the Ukrainian government building held a minute of silence in memory of a deceased Donetsk protestor, mine worker Hennadiy Konopliov.

Law enforcement officers have lined up in several files in the Mariinsky Park, pushing the protestors away from the cordon put up behind the parliament building.

Meanwhile, the Batkivschyna Party said, citing Rada deputy Serhiy Pashynsky, that "one Chernobyl activist, Volodymyr Proskurin from Kharkiv, was hurt as a result of Berkut’s actions."

An ambulance was called to the scene, where the victim "is now lying unconscious," the Rada deputy said.

It was reported that law enforcement officers and Nobody But Us activists clashed in Mariinsky Park opposite the government building in Kyiv on Tuesday morning.

The organization’s representatives tried to put up a tent, but this place was instantly encircled by Berkut officers who thwarted the action.
