You're reading: Kyiv getting ready for nationwide census

The city commission for assistance in holding the nationwide census scheduled for 2012 has been created in Kyiv.

The text of a respective instruction of Kyiv City State Administration dated Dec. 30, 2011 has been posted on the official Web site of the city administration.

The commission is chaired by Deputy Head of Kyiv City State Administration Ruslan Kramarenko, and district state administrations will have to form similar district commissions to assist in holding the census.

According to the instruction, the district state administrations will have to check "the correctness and the completeness of the census registration," as well as clarify the borders of districts, names of streets, numeration of blocks, buildings and apartments.

The relevant departments of Kyiv City State Administration will have to conduct a census of servicemen, imprisoned people, permanent patients, and homeless people.

The nationwide census will be held in December 2012.

The last census was held in Ukraine in 2001, when the total population of Ukraine stood at 48.457 million people. As of Jan. 1, 2012, the Ukrainian population was 45.63 million people, according to the State Statistics Service.
