You're reading: Klitschko to run for mayoral election in Kyiv

The leader of the UDAR Party and WBC World Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko has announced that he is to run for Kyiv mayor.

"As I have said previously, Kyiv should not live separate from the events in the country. I will run for the election in Kyiv, and our party, the UDAR Party, will also run in the parliamentary elections. I will stand for interests of Kyiv residents and every region of Ukraine," Klitschko said in an interview with Channel 5 on Feb. 28.

The politician stressed he was sure he could win both elections.

"We will win both elections. We will be represented in parliament, where we will cooperate, and I’m sure that we will form a majority with the [current] opposition. I also believe that reforms in the country should start from Kyiv, because Kyiv is the country’s trademark, Kyiv is its litmus paper," Klitschko said.
