Oleksandr Turchynov, First Deputy Prime Minister Kyiv, November 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) - A governmental investigatory commission has detected infringements while clarifying the circumstances surrounding the rise in transport fares in Kyiv, First Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchynov said at a briefing in the government on Wednesday.

"According to the preliminary information we have managed to get, and according to preliminary estimations, subway fares should not exceed UAH 1 and fares for the surface transport - 80 kopecks," he said.

Turchynov said the staff of the Kyiv city administration and the Kyiv subway "had done everything possible to block the commission's work."

According to him, the basis for the cut in fares should be an increase in the profitability of all companies by 2.5 times.

"According to estimates [the profitability is] 24.4%, though under a decision of the city council itself, the profitability of these companies cannot be more than 10%," Turchynov added.
