Trykolych gave the position of Naftohaz Ukrainy at a press conference. "Kyiv has enough volumes of natural gas to produce heat energy and hot water," he said. Trykolych added that the debt of Kyivenerho was about UAH 650 million as of January 9. Although Kyivenerho owes this sum to Naftohaz Ukrainy, the national company continues to supply natural gas to the Kyivenerho Company. "Although Kyiv does not pay, we supply gas to the city. Consequently, all complaints about interruptions in heating should not be addressed to us," Trykolych said. In early January, the Kyivenerho Company began to use emergency stock of fuel oil to produce heat energy for the city because of the reduction in the natural gas supplies. As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Kyiv city state administration has urged First Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchynov, the Emergency Situations and Protection of Population from Chornobyl Disaster Consequences Ministry, and the State Material Reserve Committee to allow Kyivenerho to use 78,000 tons of fuel oil from the emergency stock to secure heat energy supplies in Kyiv. On January 1, Russia's Gazprom gas monopoly suspended gas supplies to Ukraine. On January 7, Gazprom also suspended delivery of the transit natural gas to Europe via Ukraine. |
