Poll: Twenty percent of Kyiv residents ready to vote for Yanukovych

Kyiv, October 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – One in five residents of Kyiv are planning to vote for Regions Party leader Viktor Yanukovych in the first round of presidential elections, according to a survey carried out by Research & Branding Group, the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia (Mirror Weekly) newspaper has reported.

A total of 25.1% of Kyiv residents are planning to support incumbent Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko in the first round of presidential elections, 20.8% are ready to vote for Yanukovych, 8.8% for Front for Change leader Arseniy Yatseniuk, 4.2% for well-known banker Sergiy Tigipko, and 3.2% for Parliament Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn. Some 11.6% said they would vote against everybody, 6.5% would not go to polling stations, and 13.6% were undecided.

In the run-off, 37.4% of Kyiv residents are ready to vote for Tymoshenko, 28.8% for Yanukovych, and 14% would vote against everybody.

A total of 600 respondents participated in the study on October 26-28, 2009. The poll’s margin of error is 2%.
