A monument to Hetman Ivan Mazepa will be erected on Slava Square in Kyiv, the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration reported on Nov. 18.

According to Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration Serhiy Rudyk, the monument will be erected in 2009-2010. Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky has signed a relevant resolution, he said.

The Department for Restoration and Repair Work municipal enterprise will be responsible for the erection of this monument. The work will be financed using money from the stabilization fund foreseen in the state budget for the capital.

The monument to Ivan Mazepa will be erected to fulfill a decree of Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko, Rudyk said.
