Kyiv will host the Ukraine - European Union summit on Dec. 4.

According to the statement by the chief service for information policy of the Secretariat of President Victor Yushchenko, Andrii Honcharuk, Presidential Secretariat’s deputy head, has met with Minna Jurgen, state secretary of the minister for migration and asylum policy of Sweden’s Ministry of Justice to discuss interaction on visa and migration issues between Ukraine, Sweden and the European Union within preparations for the summit.

Ukraine puts high hopes on Sweden’s EU Presidency since that country traditionally supports Ukraine’s gradual and comprehensive integration into the European Union including liberalization of the visa regime, Honcharuk noted.

The sides agreed on continuing a dialogue on visas and migration at the Ukraine-EU summit in December to achieve practical results.

According to Iryna Vannykova, the press secretary for the Ukrainian president, the agenda of the summit includes the questions of coordinating efforts of Ukraine and the European Union in meeting the global challenges, such as the world financial and economic crisis, the energy security, the climate change, the negotiations on Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, cooperation in the field of joint foreign policy and security policy.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the agenda of the summit also includes the questions of the trade and economic cooperation, cooperation in the filed of justice, freedom and security, and coordination of efforts in the frames of the Eastern Partnership.

During the summit, the European Union will be represented by Swedish Prime Minister and President of the European Council John Fredrik Reinfeldt, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, and EU Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighborhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner.

The Ukrainian delegation to the summit will be led by President Victor Yushchenko.
