Cabinet ready to help Kyiv's authorities or to dismiss negligent heads
Mar 20, 2010 at 14:38 | Interfax-UkraineThe government is ready to help Kyiv authorities to make order in the capital – giving money, issuing legal acts and sharing resources of ministries and bodies, the premier said at a meeting the leadership of Kyiv city administration and heads of central executive power bodies devoted to the settling of urgent problems of Kyiv's development and provision for the city's vital needs.
The cabinet's department for public relations reported on Saturday that Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko demands making order in the capital.
"The issue is put forward toughly: improve your work or write applications for resignation."
"Dear Leonid Mykhailovych [Chernovetsky, Kyiv Mayor), we'll help you to make order for some time – Vice Premier for Regional Policy Viktor Tykhonov would be responsible for the issue. Heads of district administrations are to do their best, so that Kyiv residents in the short-term see the improvement," Azarov said, adding that if there were no result in the short-term, the government would have to make radical steps.
The premier said that Kyiv Mayor Chernovetsky and heads of administrations are to be personally responsible for the state of the city.
"The capital should show to other cities and towns of Ukraine that even in crisis and in the conditions of a lack of funds, one can provide for worthy surroundings for living of citizens," Azarov said.
