You're reading: UPDATE: Police arrest anti-Kirill protesters in Kyiv

The police have detained eight representatives of the national organization Svoboda (Freedom) who tried to stage a protest in the center of Kyiv against the current visit by Patriarch Kirill to Ukraine.

According to information, on Monday morning special police detachment employees detained the active participants outside the Hyatt Hotel.

"They [the detained] were taken to the Shevchenkivsky district police office," the press service of the main police department of Kyiv told Interfax-Ukraine.

The nationalist Svoboda group later said members of their organization were arrested and posted video footage of the incident to their website.
