You're reading: Kyiv City Council proposes liquidating district councils

Kyiv City Administration has proposed that Kyiv City Council disband district councils in the capital and leave only district administrations, which would be under direct management of Kyiv City Administration, the acting Kyiv City Administration head, Oleksandr Popov, said at the session of Kyiv City Council on Wednesday.

"We ask [the council] to consider [ending] the existence of district councils in Kyiv … [so] there would be only power vertical of Kyiv City Administration – district administrations, which would be subordinated to Kyiv City Administration," he said.

Popov said that today 3,600 people are working in the bureaucratic system of the capital, and Hr 309 million per year is spent on servicing the system.

"Speaking about the efficiency of budget fund spending, we should start saving funds from ourselves," Popov said.

He also proposed to consider the optimization of Kyiv City Administration’s structure and amend Kyiv’s budget. He said that in H1, 2010 the budget was under-fulfilled by around UAH 1 billion. Kyiv City Administration proposed to trim budget expenses by Hr 550 million this year.
