Both the housing and utilities and education spheres will undergo reform in Kyiv, First Deputy Head of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov has said.

"I believe, pre-school education establishments and schools should gain the status of legal entities," he told reporters after celebratory events to mark Knowledge Day at the specialized school No. 16 in Kyiv on Wednesday.

According to him, Kyiv schools will autonomously use assets saved on energy supply. "So that saved assets could be spent either on stimulation and material incentives for employees, or for the improvement of material and technical bases," Popov said, and added that such approach is being worked out now and will probably be launched on January 1, 2011.

According to him, all Kyiv schools are supplied with computer classes and are connected to the Internet, but their equipment is out of date. The first deputy mayor also reported that the city is planning to spend about UAH 19 million on the modernization and computerization of schools this year.
