You're reading: Yanukovych approves railway from Kyiv to Boryspil

An agreement on financing the construction of a railway between Kyiv and Boryspil International Airport and the construction of other infrastructure facilities for the airport was signed during Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych's visit to China, according to Vladyslav Kaskiv, the head of the working group on drafting national projects, who is currently in China with the head of state.

A framework agreement signed between Boryspil International Airport and a Chinese company allows Ukraine to obtain credit financing of up to $1 billion and foresees the construction of an eight-kilometer-long railway from Kyiv to Boryspil Airport, the construction of four railway stations and the provision of the railway with electric trains.

"The signing of the framework agreement is a practical start of the implementation of one of the ten national projects outlined by the president," Kaskiv said.

He noted that the construction of the railway would prevent serious traffic jams on the road to Boryspil, which, in his opinion, could start to occur in two years.
