Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov on Monday opened regular railway services on the Darnytsia rail and road bridge across the River Dnipro in Kyiv.

An Interfax-Ukraine reporter said that the prime minister cut the ribbon at a new object.

Azarov said during the ribbon-cutting ceremony that car traffic on the bridge would be fully opened in 2011. He said that the old rail bridge was currently closed to traffic.

Azarov noted that the Transport and Communications Ministry would draw up proposals for its overhaul. However, he was undecided on the terms of the reconstruction work.

The premier noted that car traffic on the bridge was to be opened in one direction in the winter of 2010 and in both directions in 2011.

Participating in the opening ceremony of railway traffic on the Darnytsia bridge also were Transport and Communications Minister Kostiantyn Yefymenko, Ukrzaliznytsia CEO Mykhailo Kostiuk, Head of Pivdenno-Zakhidna Railways Oleksiy Kryvopyshyn and First Deputy Head of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov.
