About 290 kilograms of narcotic drugs were destroyed at the Energia waste burning plant of Kyivenergo on Thursday, the Ukrainian Security Service said.

In all, 284.8 kilograms of heroin and 2.84 kilograms of cocaine were burned.

The batch includes 106 kilograms of heroin a Turkish citizen brought to Ukraine in his car in summer 2007. The man was sentenced to ten years in custody and property confiscation.

Another Turkish citizen set up a criminal group in the Kherson region for making heroin from smuggled ingredients. The group was exposed by the Ukrainian Security Service in 2006.

More than 120 kilograms were seized. The group members, citizens of Turkey and Ukraine, were sentenced to eleven and ten years in custody and property confiscation.

The Ukrainian Security Service is investigating other drug-related crimes.

As soon as the trials are over, the seized drugs will be destroyed.
