You're reading: Kyiv lacks 800 hotel rooms for Euro 2012

Kyiv is short of 800 rooms in four- and five-star hotels to meet UEFA's requirements to host target groups, according to the head of the tourism and hotel business department at Kyiv City State Administration Mykola Hrytsyk.

According to him, 17 hotels are currently being constructed in Kyiv, and after the hotels are commissioned, Kyiv will have a surplus of 1,200 hotel rooms. He also said that it is planned ahead of Euro 2012 to reconstruct and upgrade the category of the Bratyslava and Rus hotels from three to four stars.

According to preliminary calculations, about 150,000 people will visit Kyiv during the Euro 2012 matches. To accommodate so many guests, it is planned to use all possible means in Kyiv and Kyiv region in a range of 70 kilometers, said Hrytsyk. According to the UEFA requirements on settling target groups (the "UEFA family", teams, referees, partners, sponsors, media), Kyiv should provide 7,300 rooms in three-, four-, and five-star hotels.

TUI Travel, authorized by the UEFA, has signed 70 agreements on the reservation of 6,500 rooms. In addition, Kyiv’s stadium has to have 80,000 seats for fans and supporters.
