Ukraine has prepared an application to host the European Basketball Championship in 2015, Head of the Federation of Basketball of Ukraine, Regions Party MP Oleksandr Volkov has said.

"On December 18 [2011], the country that will host the tournament will be selected. We have to present our program, [including the] designs of sports palaces. This will be very fruitful and intensive work," he said during a meeting with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on July 5, the presidential press service reported.

President Yanukovych noted that the creation of the necessary infrastructure was important for Ukraine’s bid to win the right to host Eurobasket 2015.

In turn, Volkov said the Federation of Basketball of Ukraine was ready to develop not only basketball infrastructure, but sports infrastructure in general.

"The president of Ukraine and the head of the Federation of Basketball of Ukraine also touched on issues related to basketball teams, holding the Championship of Ukraine, as well as the development of children’s basketball," reads the statement from the press service.
