TVi, a small channel with big teeth, got a twin brother on Nov. 22. The new channel, TVi Europe, is the first Ukrainian-Polish TV channel broadcast via satellite.

Although the content on both channels are identical at the moment, they have two different licenses that would allow them to diversify content later on, general director of TVi Mykola Knyazhytskiy said. In the future, the old TVi will become news-heavy, while its European twin will have more Europe-oriented content in
Polish and Ukrainian, some of which will becoming from partner organizations in Poland.

The channel, which will be broadcast both in Europe and in Ukraine, is considered to be one of the most critical one of the government at home.

It has consistently had trouble with licensing in the past two years.

The new channel is considered a potential alternative landing platform for the crew in case their prospects for broadcasting in Ukraine look grim.

The Russian owner of TVi Konstantin Kagalovsky invested $ 5 million into the new channel, according to industry experts.

TVi general director Mykola Knyazhitskiy had the idea for a Polish-Ukrainian TV channel.

Presidential aide Hanna Herman was the only representative of the government at the channel’s inauguration.

Guests were entertained by Dobri Lyudy folk band.

Konstantin Kagalovsky, TVi Europe’s investor, welcomes guests.
