Fish & chicken at Dixie Lee
Mar 4, 2009 at 18:04 | Alexandra MatoshkoThe newly opened Dixie restaurant in Kyiv is the group’s first in Eastern Europe.
Being a family restaurant, Dixie Lee offers a cozy setting with simple but pleasant design, and a common concept of self-service: guests order at the cashier desk and take their food to their chosen seat in the hall.
Due to family orientation, smoking at Dixie Lee is forbidden, and beer is the only alcoholic beverage offered. However, considering the habits of Ukrainians, the owner of the new Ukrainian franchise, Charles Iroanya, made a decision to open an adjoining cocktail bar, Uncle Charles, which allows smoking, and offers a slightly different menu and selection of drinks.
At the family restaurant part you can enjoy crispy chicken (Hr 13.50 for one piece, Hr 26.50 for two, and Hr 252.50 for twenty), spicy chicken, nuggets and other chicken dishes, as well as seafood – 2 pieces of crispy fish for Hr 18.50, crispy shrimp (Hr 31), scallops (Hr 40) and calmari (Hr 19.50). You can also order a small fish menu with 2 pieces of fish, a salad and small French fries (Hr 47.50).
Though all the aforementioned are available at the cocktail bar, overall it’s a whole different affair. The place recreates American blues bar atmosphere with dim lighting, soft white-leather couches, square lamp shades made of wood and colorful strings and wooden partitions between tables. The room is decorated with portraits of blues legends, including James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Frank Sinatra. Not surprisingly, classy blues and jazz is constantly playing in the bar area.
In addition to chicken and French fries, the menu includes steaks: New York and sirloin (Hr 45), Salmon (Hr 70) and tuna (Hr 80), spicy chicken wings, shrimp, scallops and Caesar salad with chicken.
A special attraction of Uncle Charles cocktail bar is its selection of authentic American cocktails. Among them are “Devil’s Brew” of Sambuca, Hennessey, coffee and mandarin liqueur, “Margarita Imperial on the Rocks” of tequila, lime juice, sugar syrup, and Mandarin liqueur and others.
