A national hockey league will be established in Ukraine, the press service of the State Service of Youth and Sports has reported, referring to Chairman of the State Service of Youth and Sports and Vice President of the Ukrainian Hockey Federation Vadym Sysiuk.

Hockey clubs have already started to unite to more clearly coordinate actions during holding the national men’s ice hockey championship and raise the quality of the national championship, the press service reported.

Sysiuk said that clubs supported the initiative by the Hockey Federation regarding the creation of a competitive national league, and draft regulations of the league had been already drawn up, according to which hockey clubs are to become the founders of the league.

"The establishment of the league must promote a rise in the competitiveness of national teams, [and] the level of Ukrainian hockey on the whole. [It] will become an incentive to the mass development of this kind of sport in the country, … the attraction of investment to domestic hockey, [and] the attraction of great attention from the sports community, [and] hockey fans," Sysiuk said.

A constituent conference of the league is scheduled for June 3. The delegates of clubs are expected to attend the conference at which it is planned to approve the Regulations of the League and elect the organization’s head.
