You're reading: Ukraine to host contemporary art exhibit

Ukraine is preparing to host a major international contemporary art exhibition as this ex-Soviet republic seeks to remake itself into one of Europe's vibrant art hotspot.

Arsenal 2012, to be held May 23-July 31, will feature paintings, sculpture, installation and other artwork by nearly 100 artists from across the globe.

David Elliot, the show’s curator, said Wednesday that the project is about "bringing the best into Ukraine, but also providing a platform for artists and creators here to show their best."

The exhibit will take place at Mystetsky Arsenal (Art Arsenal), a huge government-run art complex in the center of Kiev built on the premises of a 19th century military arsenal.
