Beck upsets Troicki to advance in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) — Karol Beck of Slovakia upset third-seeded Viktor Troicki of Serbia 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-4 Monday to advance to the second round of the St. Petersburg Open.

Troicki leveled at a set apiece after breaking in the 10th game of the second set.

Beck, the 2004 runner-up, broke in the seventh game of the decider as Troicki lost in the opening round at the St. Petersburg Open for the second straight year. The Serb lost to eventual champion Andy Murray of Britain last year.

Rainer Schuettler of Germany, the 2001 runner-up, was scheduled to play Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan later Monday. Bjorn Phau of Germany was set to meet Russian wild card Stanislav Vovk.

The 2004 champion, Mikhail Youzhny leads the field after winning the Kremlin Cup last week for his fifth career title.
