‘By Ways of Travels’ by Mykola Hlushchenko

A retrospective of works by the classical Ukrainian painter Mykola Hlushchenko (1900-1977) is being shown at the National Art Museum of Ukraine. Born in present day Dnipropetrovsk Region, Hlushchenko studied in Berlin Art School and in 1925 moved to Paris. Working for the Soviet Union secret service, he was among those who had warned Soviet government about the German planning to attack ahead of time. In 1944, he moved to Kyiv, and created a series of paintings of the post-war Kyiv, as well as many landscapes he saw while traveling to France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy and other countries. It is these landscapes that the current exhibition is dedicated to.National Art Museum of Ukraine (6 Hrushevskoho, 278-7454).
