Courtesy images PinchukArtCentre, Kyiv’s top contemporary art gallery, is preparing to present its latest project – an exhibition of 20 shortlisted nominees for the PinchukArtCentre prize, to be held Oct. 31-Dec. 20. The show features 110 works by young Ukrainian artists. Many of them have been around for a while, exhibiting in a number of Kyiv’s galleries. These include Mykyta Kadan, Zhanna Kadyrova, Myroslav Vayda, Artem Volokitin, Andriy Galashyn, Hamlet Zinkovskyi, Maya Kolesnik, Volodymyr Kuznetsov, Lada Nakonechna, Oksana Protsenko, Oleksiy Say, Oleksiy Salmanov, Olesya Khomenko, Oleksiy Khoroshko, Ivan Chubukov, Masha Shubina and art groups: Bluemoloko, Hat, SOSka and SYN.

The first Ukrainian prize for young Ukrainian contemporary artists under 35 was announced by PinchukArtCentre a year ago, on Oct. 29. The total of 1, 100 applicants submitted their creations, and 20 of them were shortlisted by the expert committee. The winners will be selected by an international jury of contemporary art experts, including artists, museum directors and curators. The main prize will be Hr 100, 000 and an internship at the studio of an internationally recognized artist. Two runners-up will get special prizes of Hr 25, 000 each, plus internships. Also there is the popular vote prize of Hr 10, 000 to be awarded to the artist selected by PinchukArtCentre visitors.

Along with the exhibition of nominees, PinchukArtCentre will host the “Red Forest” art show featuring over 40 select works by the older generation – seminal Ukrainian artists of 1990s: Serhiy Bratkov, Oleksandr Hnylytsky, Oleksandr Roytbrud, Arsen Savadov, Georgy Senchenko, Vasyl Tsagolov and Ilya Chichkan.
