‘Saved, Preserved and Returned’
Feb 4, 2010 at 23:10 | Alexandra MatoshkoOver 500,000 items of archive documents, artworks, archeological findings and other items were transferred to 145 museums and 30 libraries in Ukraine. The items were smuggled all over the world – to Australia, Brazil, Great Britain, Canada, Germany, Russia, USA and many other countries. “Saved, Preserved and Returned” exhibition will feature artworks by Ukrainian artists Yakov Hnizdovsky, Lyubomyr Kuzma, Mykola Butovych, Myron Levytsky, Leo Mol and others. The unusual collection includes truly unique items such as “The Village Scene” – a 17th century painting by the unknown Dutch artist, a Scythian mirror, an archeological collection of items dating back to the 14-15th centuries as well as original manuscripts of Taras Shevchenko, including his autographs. Plus expect to see unique books, theater costumes, posters and the only original drawing by Pablo Picasso that belongs to Ukraine, formerly part of a collection of legendary ballet dancer and choreographer Serge Lifar.
