Editor’s note: This week is rich on festival movies in Kyiv: two of them are starting simultaneously. One is a drama focused festival of modern Serbian films (Jan. 25-29), while the other one is a slightly lighter festival of French features (Jan. 26 – Feb.1).

The Kyiv Post brings you the preview of four Serbian films that will screen in the Kyiv cinema. To see a full schedule and previews of French movies, and more, please visit www.kievkino.com.ua.

Movie Listings There are no festivals taking place in Kyiv at the moment.

Instead, the Kyiv Post is bringing you reviews of all three movies currently screening in foreign languages, and a review of the much-hyped latest production of Madonna.

Unfortunately, her film is only screening with Ukrainian dubbing.

Movie Listings Editor's note: The choice of movies in Kyiv this week is not the greatest the capital has seen. It’s as if the cinemas are telling us to get back to work after a season of holiday indulgence. Nevertheless, cinema addicts can choose among a movie in Spanish, another one in English and two in Ukrainian this week. So, read on to take your pick.

Movie Listings Editor’s Note: The capital is rarely short of film festivals. The ongoing Polish-Ukrainian festival “BO!,” which started on Dec.15 in Zhovten cinema, is featuring 11 films of different genres: from documentary to comedy - telling human stories and revealing the history of Poland. Kyiv Post offers some highlights.

Movie Listings Editor's note: If you missed Cannes Film Festival on the French Riviera this spring, you can still catch its best Francophone films with Weekend in Cannes festival to be held in Kyiv Dec. 1-4. Sadly, Brad Pitt could not make it to this year’s ceremony, but a couple of film directors are flying in to discuss their works with the audience right after the showings. All films will be shown in French with Ukrainian subtitles. Find the full schedule at www.institutfrancais-ukraine.com

Movie Listings Editor’s note: If Hollywood thrillers and romantic comedies run in Ukrainian cinemas regularly, independent dramas and documentaries rarely get a visa to Kyiv theaters. The American Independence Film Festival aims to restore balance presenting the other slice of America with a focus on family, love, religion and politics. All showings will take place in Kyiv cinema.
