The Others

An unexpected film from the Chilean-born director Alejandro Amenabar, who previously only worked in Spanish-speaking cinema, proved to be a deliciously haunting mysterious thriller with Nicole Kidman in one of her best roles ever. Close to the end of World War II, a woman named Grace (Kidman) retires to an old mansion with her two young children, to wait for her husband’s return from the war. The children are suffering from a rare decease – they are badly hurt by direct sunlight, therefore the house is always kept in semi-darkness creating an ominous atmosphere. Strange things start to happen, and first Grace blames her rather odd servants, and then becomes convinced the house is haunted. But the real truth is a lot scarier. Those who watching the film for the first time are in for a treat.
