The new Ukrainian singing sensation, Jamala, will give a solo performance at Freedom concert hall. Her “The Revue Show” will include a live performance, as well as dance and theater elements. The dance portion will be provided by Freedom ballet. The singer was propelled to fame after claiming victory at the Novaya Volna 2009 (New Wave) international contest of young performers, which has been held annually in Yurmala, Latvia since 2002. This year, the event took place July 28-Aug. 2.

After winning over the jury of the contest with her powerful voice and charismatic persona, Jamala has been working on her debut album and giving performances. Jamala, a.k.a. Susanna Dzhamaladinova, is an ethnic Crimean Tatar born in Kyrgyzstan. She graduated from a music school in Crimean Alushta and has been giving solo concerts since she was 16. In 2001, she became an opera class student at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy in Kyiv. By 2006 she already held a number of awards from international vocal contests including “1 Concorso Europeo Amici Della Musica” in Italy. So far, the hype around Jamala is not that big because pop isn’t part of her repertoire – the genres she employs are jazz, soul and gospel. Freedom concert hall (134 Frunze, 468-3232). Nov. 26 at 9 p.m. Tickets Hr 300 to Hr 1,500.
