Irish Fireworks

Nov 26, 2009 at 22:08 | Alexandra Matoshko
Irish dances are among the top popular dance styles in Ukraine. And while the performances of the world-famous Irish dance troupes are always warmly received by Ukrainian viewers, this country has a number of schools and dance companies of its own. One such school, Firedance, celebrates its 5th anniversary with a big festival called "Irish Fireworks" featuring the dancers from Narnia and Shamrock Irish dance studios, Shanon River and Unicorn schools and Kostyantyn Trio folk tap dance – all of them based in Ukraine. The music will be provided by two Ukrainian bands which play Irish and Celtic tunes – Run and Ghurt Yo’Ghurt. The better known of the two, Ghurt Yo’Ghurt, has been playing since 2000. Starting as a folk trio it developed into a band of six people, fronted by Kiril Borodin, who plays violin, bass and guitar in the band. The band can be often seen playing at Kyiv’s clubs and Irish pubs.
