Is the water you are drinking clean? Are there better and cheaper alternatives? Who is responsible for keeping water safe, and are they doing a good job? In this edition, the Kyiv Post launches a four-part series to answer these questions. The newspaper hired experts to analyze 25 samples of water from taps, pumps, wells and bottles.

Bloomberg: Ukrainian parliament votes to ban smoking in public places Ukraine, where half the male population and 13.2 percent of women smoke tobacco according to World Bank calculations, barred smoking in public places two weeks ahead of the Euro 2012 soccer tournament.

Lawmakers in the capital Kyiv today approved a law prohibiting smoking in food establishments, administrative buildings, on public transport and in hotels, according to the legislation.

Deutsche Welle: Brawl in Ukraine parliament over use of Russian language A violent scuffle has taken place in the Ukraine parliament building over a bill to allow the use of Russian in public institutions. It's not the first time such scenes have been witnessed in the Kyiv legislature.

The fight broke out in the evening on May 24 as a debate about the place of the Russian language in the country descended into chaos. Members of President Viktor Yanukovych's party - which has much of its support in the largely Russian-speaking south and east of the country - fought openly with the pro-Western opposition.

NATO: 'We are concerned by selective application of justice' in Ukraine The recently concluded NATO Summit in Chicago ended with a condemnation of political repression in Ukraine and a warning for President Viktor Yanukovych to hold honest parliamentary elections on Oct. 28.

"We are concerned by the selective application of justice and what appear to be politically motivated prosecutions, including of leading members of the opposition, and the conditions of their detention. We encourage Ukraine to address the existing shortcomings of its judicial system to ensure full compliance with the rule of law and the international agreements to which it is a party. We also encourage Ukraine to ensure free, fair and inclusive parliamentary elections this autumn."
