Second Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma (1994-2004) has said that he sees no hidden political agenda behind the opening of a criminal case against him and his summoning for questioning.

"I’m not considering anything today, I don’t want to suppose that the Prosecutor General’s Office is working on somebody’s orders," he told reporters on Wednesday before his questioning at the main investigative department of the PGO, when asked whether the investigation really wants to find the truth or of the case had been staged for the West so as to bolster the credibility of Ukraine’s justice system.

"Today we can speak about many preconditions, many reasons, I believe that from my side it is absolutely incorrect to comment on this…" Kuchma said when asked whether he saw a hidden political agenda behind the opening of the criminal case against him.

He noted that five years ago he said that this was "a huge provocation against the president, against Ukraine."

"I adhered to these positions then, and will adhere to them now," he said.
