There are no Ukrainian citizens among the foreigners taken hostage in Lebanon, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

"The Embassy of Ukraine in Lebanon has received the information from the competent authorities in that country that there are no Ukrainian citizens among the hostages," the Foreign Ministry’s spokesman, Oleksandr Dykusarov told Interfax-Ukraine.

As reported, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said earlier it was checking reports in the media about the abduction of Ukrainian tourists in Lebanon.

The Russian service of the BBC reported that seven European nationals had been kidnapped in eastern Lebanon on Wednesday. According to press reports, among the hostages were natives of Ukraine and Estonia, reads the statement.

Local security services reported that the tourists had been attacked by an armed group of men while cycling in the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon.
