You're reading: Ukraine to supply armored vehicles to Iraq

In April Ukraine will supply the first consignment of armored vehicles to Iraq under a large-scale contract worth over $550 million, state company Ukrspecexport told Interfax on March 24.

A document for the initial supply of 26 vehicles was signed between the company and its Iraqi customer on Thursday, a source said.

The armored vehicles are due to be supplied in April, he said.

It was reported that in 2009 a Ukrspecexport subsidiary, the state enterprise Specialized Foreign Trade Firm "Progress," signed an over $550 million contract with Iraq, the first one in a series of Ukrainian-Iraqi defense agreements.

Under the contract, Ukraine is to supply over 400 armored vehicles, in particular, BTR-4 vehicles and Antonov An-32 light transport aircraft, and to provide aircraft maintenance services.

Among the key contract operators are the Kharkiv-based Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau (KhKBM), Malyshev Plant (Kharkiv) and Antonov (Kyiv).
