You're reading: Some 26,100 draftees to join Ukrainian army in spring, according to minister’s instruction

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Yezhel has signed an instruction on conscription in April-May 2011, the media liaisons department of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine reported on March 28.

According to the instruction, young men that were born in 1986-1993 without the right to deferment will be conscripted. In general, it is planned to conscript some 26,100 people, which is 600 less than during the autumn draft in 2010.

Of these, 20,000 people will join Ukraine’s Armed Forces, 5,100 draftees will join the Internal Troops of the Internal Ministry of Ukraine, and 1,000 more people will serve in the State Special Transport Service.

A total of UAH 1.7 million will be allocated from the national budget for the spring 2011 conscription campaign to the regional, Kyiv city and the Crimean republican draft boards.
