You're reading: Ukrainian doctor beaten by Gaddafi supporters due to Yanukovych’s portrait

The supporters of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi beat a Ukrainian doctor after they mistook a portrait of President Viktor Yanukovych in her office for an image of an insurgent leader.

The Segodnia newspaper reported on March 29, referring to Ukrainian doctors who are in Libya, that a citizen of Ukraine, the head of the gynecological department at a hospital in Sabratha, hung a portrait of Yanukovych on a wall in her office.

The photo was noticed by Gaddafi supporters.

"They decided that the portrait depicted one of the leaders of the Libyan insurgents. Therefore, without thinking twice, they badly beat the doctor and tore the portrait to pieces," the newspaper wrote.

The police that arrived at the scene explained to the Libyans that they had made a mistake.

According to the newspaper, the Ukrainian is already recovering and feels fine.

As reported, hundreds of Ukrainian doctors work in Libya, although some of them have already left the country.
