Kyiv supports Georgia's territorial integrity, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryschenko said.

"Ukraine will not recognize the "breakaway republics" [Abkhazia and South Ossetia], and it views them as an integral part of Georgia because this is how they were recognized by the international community," Hryschenko told the Czech Lidove Noviny daily.

"We condemn any military solutions to the territorial disputes between Tbilisi and Moscow and we support exclusively a law-based solution to this conflict," he said.

The Ukrainian minister also described the GUAM (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova) group as a promising project, "the significant potential of which has not yet been realized in full."

Ukraine plans to seriously step up its role within the group, he said.

GUAM, an organization aimed at promoting democracy and economic development, was established by Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova in 1997. Uzbekistan was a member of the group from 1999 to 2005.
