You're reading: Yanukovych orders creation of Ukrainian cultural center in Baku

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said that a Ukrainian cultural center should be created in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The head of state issued a respective instruction to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryschenko after a statement by Chairman of the Ukrainian Shevchenko Community in Azerbaijan Oleksandr Zarichny.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, in turn, ordered the mayor of Baku to consider the issue of creating the Ukrainian cultural center in the city.

Over 30,000 Ukrainians currently live in Azerbaijan.

The Ukrainian president was on a one-day official visit to Baku on April 28. This was his first visit to Azerbaijan as president.
