Ukrainian Interior Minister Anatoliy Mohyliov has said that the Ukrainian militia should first be significantly reformed, and then it could be renamed as the police.

"I think that first of all the militia should be turned into a cardinally new agency that properly protects the life of our community. We have to change the format of the militia, while its renaming could be the next step. Maybe it will be necessary later," Mohyliov said at a briefing in Kyiv on April 28.

He added that Russia, which has renamed the militia as the police, has been stably developing over the last ten years, it has huge financial resources and a lieutenant’s average salary is $1,000 there.

"When a lieutenant’s salary in our militia reaches $1,000, this will be a compatible position on the labor market, and only then we will raise the issue of renaming the force as the police, but at the moment there is no need to do this," he said.
