You're reading: Ukrainians write about authorities on ‘Truth Wall’ in Kyiv

Ukrainians can leave their opinions on the work of the administration and state their wishes on the symbolical "Truth Wall" put in Kyiv's central street Khreschatyk on May 1.

The organizer of this event is the National Forum of Trade Unions of Ukraine.

"I don’t think we will hear anything positive this year because the social policies in the country, unfortunately, do not benefit people," Myroslav Yakibchuk, chairman of the National Forum of Trade Unions of Ukraine, told reporters on Sunday.

Yakibchuk believes the erection of such a wall on May 1 is a tradition, which has been kept for three years.

"We keep this tradition because it’s public opinion, people’s objective position on the authorities, and the authorities should hear it," Yakibchuk

In the previous two years, thousands of opinions and wishes were left on the wall and were later forwarded to the Cabinet of Ministers and the president. The same thing will be done this year.

The "Truth Wall" is a piece of plywood with a piece of paper attacked to it. Anyone can write anything on it using the attacked fountain-pens. When the paper is full, it is replaced with a new piece.

The first inscriptions (mainly criticizing the Ukrainian administration) appeared on the "Truth Wall" five minutes after its erection, an Interfax correspondent has reported. Among these inscriptions were "Government, shame on your prosecutors, they are for sale," "We want to live, not exist," "Dissolve Verkhovna Rada and Cabinet of Ministers," "Where is the administration? What is it doing for people?"

There are also some positive statements ("Long live people of Ukraine!", "Miners are champions," and "Please abolish school uniform").

Some people sign their words and even leave their cell phone numbers.

Residents and guests of Kyiv are actively taking part in this action.
