Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has signed a law on amendments to some laws of Ukraine regarding state social assistance to low-income families and disabled persons.

"Yesterday I signed the law that was approved by parliament. It foresees a significant increase in financial assistance to low-income families and disabled persons," he told reporters in the village of Novi Petrivtsi, Kyiv regions, on Friday.

Yanukovych said that this assistance was increased from May 1.

The press service of the head of state reported that the size of subsistence level for disabled children in low-income families will be increased from 10% to 20%. Thus, for disabled children aged under six years this increase totals Hr 41.60, while for children aged 6-18 it totals almostHr 50.

With regard to disabled persons, the state assistance for the care of disabled war veterans in very poor health and dependent on continual care, in some categories, will be increased: For former service personnel and other persons who are entitled to disability pensions in line with the law of Ukraine on pension provision of persons discharged from military service, and some other persons, the increase will be from Hr 400 to Hr 800; while for persons entitled tp retirement pensions, disability pensions, or long service pensions in line with other laws – from Hr 120 to Hr 240.
