Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryschenko has said he hopes that progress will be made in talks looking for a solution to the Transdniestrian conflict this year.

"We hope that we will make a breakthrough in the 5+2 talks this year," Hryschenko said at a session of the Standing Committee of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly in Kyiv on Friday.

Ukraine joined a vigorous search for an effective political solution based on the 5+2 formula, and even sent its permanent envoy to the region, the minister said.

"We plan to resume these consultations in the 5+2 format in the near future," he said.

Hryschenko said he planned to discuss this issue with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a meeting in Odessa in early June.

Transdniestria settlement talks "could be re-launched in Moscow next month," he said.
