Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka accuses officials of ex-premier Yulia Tymoshenko's government for the fraudulent procurement of vaccines during a flu outbreak in Ukraine in 2009.

"The government officials are to blame, they have worked under the leadership of Yulia Timoshenko," the prosecutor general said on Inter TV channel on Friday evening. He stressed that the Ukrainian Interior Ministry is investigating this criminal case.

According to the prosecutor general, there are five defendants in this case, including two high-ranking officials. The decision of a district court in Oregon, the U.S. about the return to the Ukrainian budget of more than $19 million illegally spent by Tymoshenko’s government on the purchase of vaccines at inflated prices, confirms the facts of the infringement of law by officials of Tymoshenko’s government, he said.

As reported, on May 20, a court in the state of Oregon, the United States, has ruled that over $19 million spent illegally on vaccine at artificially high prices by the government led by former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is to be reimbursed to the Ukrainian national budget. On May 23, an appeals instance confirmed the court’s ruling, having rejected demands by the defendant’s legal representative.
