Moscow, June 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian suppliers have won a tender announced by Lebanon to buy 25,000 tonnes of wheat, in which Russia also participated for the first time after lifting a grain embargo, a source on the Russian grain market has told Interfax-Ukraine.

"Ukraine offered grain at a lower price of $300 per tonne under FOB terms. The price of Russian wheat was $313 per tonne," he said.

The grain is to be delivered by July 5.

According to him, suppliers from the United States and Europe also took part in the tender.

"Now to win, Russian suppliers have to offer grain at a price below $300 per tonne," he said.

A tender announced by Egypt is to take place soon.

"Competition between Ukraine and Russia on the world market will be strong – both countries will offer large volumes of grain. This will seriously affect the prices on the world market," he said.

However, he stressed that the present situation adds urgency to the idea that appeared several years ago of creating a so called "grain OPEC," which foresees the creation of a pool of the Black Sea countries with the participation of Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan.

This union would allow them to cooperate on the world market rather than compete.
