Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych met with the chief editors of Ukrainian mass media on Monday for over two-and-a-half hours, holding an informal and wide-ranging discussion, according to journalists.

Interfax-Ukraine Director Oleksandr Martynenko, who was present at the meeting, said the president described the mass media as being "a connecting link between the government and nation, and between people."

According to Martynenko, Yanukovych during the talks paid a great deal of attention to economic issues, including reforms in the health care system and the housing and utilities sector.

"It was noticeable that it’s these problems that are currently concerning him especially," Martynenko said.

The talk also concerned international relations, primarily between Ukraine and Russia.

"On the whole, the meeting was rather informative, and the journalists said they wished such talks were held more often," Martynenko said.
