Ukrainian Emergencies Minister Viktor Baloha has said that a 112 emergency phone number will be launched in the cities of Ukraine that will host the Euro 2012 European Football Championship (Kyiv, Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Lviv) by the beginning of the sports event.

"By the start of Euro 2012, the 112 system will be available in all cities that are hosting the championship," he said at a press conference on July 1 in Kyiv.

Baloha added that it is planned to open regional 112 system centers all over the territory of Ukraine in late 2012 or early 2013.

According to an order of the president of Ukraine of April 6, 2011, the Emergencies Ministry is in charge of the introduction and maintenance of the 112 emergency phone number.

Access to the 112 service will be open to both fixed line and mobile phones.
