You're reading: NATO to send consultants to help reform Ukrainian Armed Forces

The command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has briefed a NATO delegation on army reform and prospects for international cooperation in Ukraine, according to the press service of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine.

This was discussed during a meeting between Chief of General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Hryhoriy Pedchenko and NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Admiral James Stavridis on July 19.

During the meeting, the Ukrainian side told the NATO representatives about the current state, development prospects and priorities of international cooperation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Stavridis, in turn, noted that professionalism and readiness for the most complicated tasks of the Ukrainian detachments participating in NATO missions, and said they deserve the highest praise.

The NATO representatives also praised Ukraine’s work on improvement of the role of sergeants in the Ukrainian Armed Forces and offered assistance in this area.

"During the talks, the sides agreed on the possibility of sending to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry two sergeants from NATO strategic command on operations and the U.S. Armed Forces in Europe to act as consultants," reads the report.
